Kevin's Recent Activity
At the start of the 119th Congress, Kevin was appointed to be Co-chair of the Congressional Taskforce on Strengthening Democracy. In this role, he’s able to conduct oversight into the Trump administration’s executive overreach, lead initiatives to modernize the federal government, fight back against corruption, and expand access to the ballot box.
Now, more than ever, Kevin is focused on protecting core American freedoms, defending our democracy, and safeguarding the electoral process from those who ignore the will of the people and the rule of law.
Protecting American freedoms is personal to Kevin. He is a proud father of two twin boys who were conceived through IVF. While serving in Congress, he has continued to be an outspoken advocate for IVF and for protecting and expanding reproductive freedoms. Kevin is honored to have consistently received a 100% pro-choice rating from Planned Parenthood.
San Mateo County is a donor community. Historically, we have sent more money in tax dollars to the federal government than we receive back in regional investments. One of Kevin’s highest priorities as a Member of Congress is to deliver more federal resources for CA-15. Over his first three years in the House, Kevin advocated for over $107 million in federal funding for community projects in CA-15. These local projects have improved transit infrastructure, childhood education centers, emergency preparedness systems, flood controls, and recreational facilities throughout San Mateo County and South East San Francisco County.
CA-15 serves as an economic engine for our state, and our nation. The innovative technologies being developed and manufactured right in our back yard are helping to solve some of humanity’s biggest challenges. Among those challenges is the persistent threat of climate change, the effects of which are being seen right now throughout the Bay Area. Kevin has continued his work to ensure the rest of the country follows California’s lead in the fight against climate change. He has delivered federal investments in renewable energy, led initiatives to improve our grid resiliency, and introduced legislation to develop safer, greener transportation options that will reduce carbon emissions.
Prior to serving in Congress, Kevin pushed hard to fund CalTrain’s electrification project, which is now a national model. Kevin has built upon this legacy by introducing legislation in The U.S. House of Representatives that would decrease barriers for rail electrification projects, making it easier for the rail sector to transition away from fossil fuels.
The San Francisco Bay Area is also the epicenter of our nation’s affordability crisis. Wealth disparities in our region are jaw dropping, and the price of everyday goods continues to rise. In Congress, Kevin has prioritized lowering the cost of living by introducing legislation to make life more affordable for hardworking Americans. The Federal Poverty Line is a metric used to determine which families are eligible for safety net benefits, but has not been updated since the 1960s, and does not accurately reflect the modern cost of living. Kevin is leading the charge to update, Federal Poverty Line to make critical safety net programs more accessible for hard-working Americans who don't currently qualify, but also don't make enough to afford their basic needs.
When considering the Bay Area’s affordability crisis, housing is among the most critical issues that must be addressed. After hearing concerns from local housing advocates about the lack of transit oriented housing, Kevin introduced legislation in Congress that aims to tackle housing accessibility by repurposing empty lots located near public transit into housing developments. Kevin also understands the intersection of climate change and housing affordability. That’s why he introduced a bill to provide financial assistance to low‑income homeowners and affordable housing providers, making upgrades more affordable and making housing more resilient to climate change.
